The benefits outweigh the risks of cardiac imaging
Abstract
The debate about possible risks associated with cardiovascular imaging has intensified. This discussion is triggered by the
increasing use of imaging procedures and methods, including cardiac computed tomography (CT) of the heart. Should doctors
or patients refuse to perform surgery because of the risks associated with cardiac CT? Are the increased costs (due to imaging
procedures) balanced with the benefits of such services to doctors and patients? It is dangerous, especially radiation. However,
the benefits of improved diagnosis and earlier, more effective treatment seem to outweigh the risks.
